A Family that Skates Together Stays Together
This client wanted to immortalize their 4 member family on four skateboards. I flew to Los Angeles where they live to take their photographs and check out the space where they wanted to place the finished piece and keep this location on the back of my head for when I made the drawings and designs. I opted for a background with a sfumatura (gradient) effect that would move from green slowly to yellow and the result was spectacular. The young lady shares the same name of the grandmother who is no longer with us so I made a micro mosaic portrait on a cameo and added her on the neck of the teenage girl. I find the piece to be a focal point when people enter their home. It definitely shows elegance with a modern twist where the old technique of mosaics meld with the modern and hip air of the recycled skateboards giving the home a fantastic feel.
